ARTIST PROFILE

Jennifer Procter is an interdisciplinary artist living on Ngunnawal/Ngambri land. She has been training in arts since early childhood, first in music, then visual arts and dance. She attended CIT and the VCA and worked as a director, choreographer and teacher in Melbourne and Canberra. Jennifer took several years break from professional arts to practice meditation intensively in Borneo, Nepal, India and Australia. She is currently working in animated drawing and installation. She teaches art and mindfulness in Canberra.

Drawing on her practice of movement and stillness, Jennifer is influenced by Buddhist philosophies of impermanence and non-self.  Her work explores consciousness in materiality, the body and in relationship.

"I see my work as performance art. Even if I am not performing, or if the work is 2D, I'm always aware of the performer’s body or physical presence in a medium, and a relationship in time and space with the audience. It’s important to me that art comes from the body, that it communicates through feeling and atmosphere.”
